The All Japan Senior High School Ogura Hyakunin Isshu Karuta Championship

Host The All Japan Senior High School Cultural Federation, the All Japan Karuta Association, the Tenji Seitoku Education Foundation
Overview High school students gather for this tournament to fight for the national championship. There are individual matches and team matches in which five players are entered among the eight registered for a team. The first championship was held in 1980 at Omi Shrine with only eight schools but now over 40 schools attend from all over Japan after prefectural qualifications. Matches are held for two days at Kangakukan, Omi Shrine (Otsu, Shiga) and other seminar facilities within the shrine campus.
